How I Posted a YouTube Short Every Day for 30 Days and What I Learned
Have you ever considered posting a YouTube short every day for 30 days? Well, I did just that and here’s what I learned.
The rules were simple. Firstly, I had to create a brand new channel. Secondly, I had to pick a specific niche, and lastly, I had to post one YouTube short every single day for 30 days. Spoiler alert, I broke rule number three again and after just 0.420 seconds, I knew exactly what my new niche should be- GaryVee.
The first thing I needed to do was create a channel name. After researching several short channels and GaryVee, I learned two things; I had to include his name and make sure that the audience knew what to expect. Therefore, I chose “DailyVee Clips,” and I was proud of the name that I had chosen.
Next, I needed to create a logo and banner. After Googling GaryVee, I found the best picture and downloaded it. I then opened Canva and transferred the photo, removed the background, lowered the brightness, added some contrast, removed the saturation, added a red background, and added text using a bold font. My logo was complete, and I made a beautiful banner.
I separated the video production into four stages:
1. Research- This was the easiest part because I just went to GaryVee's main channel and found a video, preferably podcast-style.
2. Note-taking- After finding a video, I watched the whole thing at 1.5 times speed to find the best parts. I constantly paused and took notes of timestamps to look back at later.
3. Video editing- I edited and added subtitles manually. This took a very long time. A few days ago, I found out about a program that generates subtitles for you called Captionator. This saved me a lot of time, but it only works for Final Cut Pro, and it isn't 100% accurate.
4. Uploading- This was the easiest part. I uploaded videos sometimes two a day, sometimes one a day. When October came, I did miss a few days, but in total from September 14th to October 14th, I posted 45 YouTube shorts, which averages to 1.5 shorts a day.
Looking at my analytics, my results weren't as expected. My most viewed short was 8713 views, which was about 45% less than what I got when I posted my GaryVee shorts on this channel. I gained 70 subscribers. What could I have improved?
1. Titles- I don't think my titles were all that interesting. I had quotes for titles which some did well, but others not so much.
2. Video- Some of the timestamps I chose weren't all that great, and I could have also dove deeper and looked at older videos instead of just recent ones.
3. Niche- The other thing could be the influencer himself, but I don't want to blame GaryVee because he has a huge following, and there are other channels doing way better than this one that's specifically dedicated to GaryVee.
4. Length- I will say I definitely did try to make videos as short as possible since it made editing much faster, and as you can see, my longest video was 30 seconds, and my shortest was five. On average, my videos were 13.3 repeating seconds.
This channel definitely has potential, but it just needs more time.
Surprisingly, my analytics are not mine, but they're actually from a viewer. Someone reached out to me a month ago, and we started talking. Eventually, he made a YouTube channel.
